Salgótarján - Investment Forum
On 2nd and 3rd October 2008 we have organised jointly with the American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (AmCham), with our member, the ITD Hungary Zrt. and with the collaboration of the initiative: "Cooperation for the Economy of Nógrád" ("Nógrád Gazdaságáért Együttműködés") - a grouping of business associations for economic development and enterprise in Nógrád County - an Investment Forum in Salgótarján, with the active participation of 60 persons. The truly substantial presentations were followed by consultations and informal discussions, which provided excellent chances for building new contacts. For the conclusion of the full day programme there was an enjoyable dinner.
The event was launched by the opening address of the State Secretary in the Ministry of National Development and Economy, Dr. Csaba Molnár, who paid particular attention to the fact, that the economic actors could, by really comprehensive cooperation, create the means and ways for disclosing solutions of the county's economic problems.
He made references, that for eliminating the numerous disadvantages - like poor economic performance, inadequate enterprise activities, the high rate of unemployment - there are numerous starting points to be identified, like e.g. the closeness of the Capital, the closeness of the neighbouring country, the high standard middle school education, the availability of labour, relatively low labour costs. The unique natural endowment of the county offer ample development chances for tourism on a wide scale.
He pointed out, that the successful, initiative-friendly and competent entrepreneur community is going to solve the existing problems, and that the Government will on its side, with targeted decisions, with granting of development tax-allowances contribute to the progress of the County.
The presentation of Ildikó Sándor, the Office Manager of the Northern-Hungarian Region of ITD Hungary, provided the participants and particularly those looking for investment opportunities with a bunch of useful information. She surveyed in details the unique features of the County, as well as the most significant aspects of its economy; in addition, she outlined the priorities of the economic development and currently anticipated concrete projects. The slides of information projected during the address, will soon be made available electronically!
In the remaining part of the event, the participating companies and guests could witness success stories of resident companies. The managers of the AFT Európa Kft. and the Delta-Tech Kft. made their experiences public, followed by an exchange-round of opinions. Particular attention has attracted, the presentation of the Pharmatéka Bt., with their self-designed and self-managed investment opportunities, which are based on the for the region traditional potato production, and they are currently looking for partners for the construction of a hybrid plant for potato processing.
 Balassagyarmat - Delphi Thermal Hungary Kft. - Factory visit
László Kocsis, Finance Director welcomed our group and presented to us the Factory Delphi in Balassagyarmat-Szügy. Delphi is present in Hungary since 1991. In 2000 the Delphi-Calsonic Hungary was created in Balassagyarmat (currently: Delphi Thermal Hungary Kft.), which delivers compressors for air-condition equipment to the vehicle industry. The plant of 14000 square metres started its across-the-board activity in 2002, and currently they produce three sorts of compressors, among others for European car manufacturers, like e.g. GM/Opel, Renault, BMW, VW und Ferrari. The production comprises two main lines: metal processing and assembly. Typical for the productivity is, that of the ready-made product assembled of round about 60-65 components, every 35 seconds, one rolls off the belt. The here manufactured compressors are designed by Luxemburg and American engineers of Delphi, while the local engineers' group is responsible for the constructing of the manufacturing process and for the permanent development, based on the LEAN organisation philosophy. In the Balassagyarmat plant there are six hundred workers employed. The quality control in the factory is looked after by more than one laboratories and numerous features of the basic material and the components as well as of the final product are constantly tested. The factory in Balassagyarmat is in the possession of adequacy certificates of the vehicle industry for quality assurance and environmental protection, since its foundation.

Fossils of Ipolytarnóc
In Ipolytarnóc, in this small village at the Slovakian border, we have taken part in a particular epochal expedition, where we could see prehistoric findings of several million years ahead, preserved by volcanic catastrophes, as well as fossil trees found last year in Bükkábrány. Due to lack of time, we could not undertake the walking through the learning path (a one and a half hour tour), we could however inspect a 4D animation film about the nature of prehistoric times, which was for all of us a "staggering" experience.
The, by crystal clear air and by splendidly beautiful surrounding encompassed "Palots-Pompei"/"Palóc Pompei"/, the inviting touring paths, the elsewhere not to be found mineral- and other rock formations, the prehistoric footprints and the, in contrast, most modern, by European standards earmarked visiting centres and "last but not least", the friendly reception everywhere: we can all this wholeheartedly recommend to everybody - also in form of a family programme!

 Berkenye - the Swabian model village
A particular highlight of our programme was the visit to Berkenye!
This village populated by Swabians - ethnic Germans - is situated in an untouched, picturesque surrounding, 50km from Budapest. The diligence of its inhabitants is praised among others, by the bio-fruit-farming around the settlement, the locomotive of which is the Village Co-operative/Faluszövetkezet. The Co-operative also operates the cold-storage plant of 800 tons capacity, which processes mainly berries of its own production (raspberry, blackberry, black currant and red currant) and sells it in form of deep-frozen fruit to its customers. For higher grade processing - which is their objective - they would need additional investment. The building of a wellness project has also propped-up, because not so long ago, a thermal spring of 35 Co , 500 metres deep was discovered in the neighbourhood of the village. Interested investors may acquire more information from the mayor's office or personally from the Mayor: Mrs. Schmidt Józsefné.
We could also visit the Szent Anna Pension, deservedly renowned in the village and in the neighbourhood as well, where we had the pleasure of trying the exclusive dishes made of locally grown fruits. The eleven high standard rooms and the conference hall of the Pension together provide excellent opportunity for company parties and other events, as well as unforgettable relaxation for families, for touring-programmes and other sport events in the vicinity. To recapitulate: we could take part in a very useful and with unforgettable experiences packed, two-day programme, in one of Hungary's, in size, smallest, however undoubtedly most colourful county: Nógrád.
